" No Love Songs"

Suiciderock: Could you tell us a bit more about your band? Who came up with the idea? And where did you get to know each other?
Sakke:
We met up in school. I guess we have known each other for too long now. *grins*
Visa:
Yeah, we know us for too many years now. We started playing in the garage of our drummer, than we started to play some gigs in different kind of Youth houses and similar locations that means we took the well-known baby steps.

Suiciderock: When did you form the band?
Visa:
I think it was back in the year 1999.

Suiciderock: Did you start just for fun or was your intention to get something serious out of this band? Did you consider to make your living by playing music ever since?
Sakke:
Actually, we can't live from our music so far, but it still is a big dream for us.
Visa:
At the beginning it was kind of a hobby for us, but now we take it a bit more serious. It's fun to play, so it is still a hobby for us as well. I mean if it wouldn`t be fun we wouldn`t do it.

Suiciderock: Does your bandname have a special meaning for you and what is the story behind your band name?
Visa:
I was the one who invented it. So I`m the one to blame. *smiles* Me and Mikko got dropped out of school after that we didn`t have anything to do and we were bad in English at this time. We were thinking about something that doesn`t exist. So we somehow came accross „Mind of Doll".

Suiciderock: Every band has his own music heroes. Who are your heroes and which band/singer do you want to make a song with?
Visa:
Yeah, Michael Monroe would be fantastic.
Suiciderock: He will be in this hotel tonight.
Visa:
Really?
Sakke:
We all have our own heroes. Yeah, we rock. Everybody in the band has a different taste.
Visa:
I think Ville Valo is a pretty cool guy.

Suiciderock: Please be that kind and tell us how you made the decision to become a musician?
Visa:
I was forced to play music. *smiles* They wanted me to sing, because everyone else in the band didn't want to do this job. They were too shy for it. They told me that I have to sing and here I am. The truth was that everybody had made up his mind for an instrument except me.
Suiciderock: So you were just too slow?
Visa:
Yeah, I was too slow.

Suiciderock: What is your first musical memory?
Sakke:
I remember when I was ten years old and we tried to play guitar. We didn`t have a clue how to play this instrument, but we did it.
Visa:
As far as I can remember it was some song of Guns 'n Roses at his home. *points to Sakke* I guess it was „Don't you cry tonight".
Sakke:
Yes, and we were so bad that my mum started to cry.
Visa:
I think my first memory relating to music is combined with the Michael Jackson song „Bad". My father had this white hat. I put it on while trying to dance like Michael, but it didn't work out that well. My mum thought it was brilliant. *smiles*

Suiciderock: Who is responsible for the songwriting and where do you take your inspiration from?
Sakke:
Visa is the one who writes the lyrics.
Visa:
Yeah and the rest is a common project. Someone comes up with a certain idea during the rehearsals and than we make a song out of it if it fits.
Sakke:
It's team work. Everybody does something for our songs.
Visa:
Except the drummer. *laughs* We always have to tell him how to play.
Suiciderock: It's strange that it is the drummer because in Finland the bass player is always the one people joking about. *everybody laughs*

Suiciderock: Your debut album will be released in fall this year. Meanwhile people can listen to a 2 songs on your page „Marks on my face" and „Troublemaker". Could you tell us something about the time in the studio?
Visa:
I think the song „Marks on my face" is about the things that happen in your life. Anything can happen and every happening in your life leaves a mark like scars. Actually, not like scars it's more like growing older and getting wrinkles. There happens so many good and bad things. Life changes you and time leaves it's marks. Well, and „Troublemaker" is about me. I`m a troublemaker.

Suiciderock: What was the most memorable occurrence in the studio?
Sakke:
It was a hard time for us. We had our own difficulties during the time we spend in the studio. The record isn`t ready by now.
Visa:
We are still mixing it. We recorded it on the weekends. It's easier if you can meet and record during the week, but if you only have the chance to record on the weekends it's a bit difficult. We also had this break that lasted for four month.
Sakke:
I had an injury in my left ear. So I had to stop playing for four month. That really stopped us out.
Visa:
But after all it was a great time for us. The studio was in the middle of a forest.
Suiciderock: Which studio was it?
Visa:
We recorded it at studio „Perkkele" (for all non-fins perkkele means shit).

Suiciderock: What can people expect from your album?
Visa:
Hard rock and sleeze. The album will be really fast. Their won`t be any love songs on it.

Suiciderock: How would you desrcibe your life shows?
Sakke:
They are amazing. *smiles*
Visa:
Anything can happen. I think that`s the funny part of this and it keeps this job always interesting. Once we've played a gig and our bass player entered the stage. He was totally ready to play, but he suddenly noticed that he left his bass in the backstage.
Sakke:
A few years ago our former bass player fell off the stage, but he went on playing.

Suiciderock: If you have the chance to organise your own festival. Who would perform?
Sakke:
I would invite King Diamond.
Visa:
I would go for the Backyard Babies, Kiss, Monster Magnet.
Sakke:
Defuse would be great also ACDC would be a part of the festival. Yeah I think that`s about it.
Visa:
I would love to plan a festival that takes a whole year.
Sakke:
Yeah that would be great. We would invite all our friends.
Suiciderock: And you would have the honor to headline the whole festival?
Sakke:
No, no we wouldn`t play there at all. We would party only.
Visa:
And of course, we would have this free beer tickets. *smiles*

Suiciderock: Your future plans for the band and yourselves?
Visa:
To write new songs, we already started to write new material and we want to go on tour.
Sakke:
Yeah, we want to play as many gigs as possible.
