"The Career of the artist always comes first"
Suiciderock: You are working as a manager for The Bitterlicks as well as you are the owner of rokkerproductions. Can you give us a little introduction of your job?
Ossi: That`s right. I`m the owner of rokkerproductions. My job for The Bitterlicks includes basically everything expect playing. The guys can do that, but I do everything else. I handle the gigs, the promotion. I just look after the guys. * smiles * That`s a huge job to look after them and to make their career.
Suiciderock: What exactly is rokkerproductions?
Ossi: I started this managing company for The Bitterlicks. I`m working for The Bitterlicks only for a while now. I haven`t promoted the company that much yet. The webpage is open, but not ready. I just needed some company that I could work legally in the music business. That`s what rokkerproductions is.
Suiciderock: Are you planning to sign some other bands besides The Bitterlicks in the future?
Ossi: Yeah of course, I`m planning to do this, but I think it takes time. The Bitterlicks take so much of my time. It`s like a 24/7 job, but in the future I will sign more bands of course.
Suiciderock: What does a band need to get your interest?
Ossi: The music has to be great. The guys have to have passion for their own music and what they are doing, because basically it´s all because of the music. If I don`t like the band and their music, I won´t help them. I have to have passion for their music as well.
Suiciderock: And the management is your daily job?
Ossi: I do many things besides that. I`m working for the “First Aid” here in Finland for a year and a half now and I also have some different short-term jobs.
Suiciderock: How does a normal work day look like for you?
Ossi: I wake up around 8 o`clock, start checking my mails. It depends on the day, but I spend lots of time in front of the computer and on the phone. Busy busy.
Suiciderock: Was it always your intention to become a manager?
Ossi: No. I became the manager of The Bitterlicks about two years ago. That happened when I met Jimmy for the first time. We just connected. Jimmy doesn`t have any place to stay so Jimmy moved to my apartement and than we got to know each other much better. I heard about their music. I just love them. The music just cruched into my head and I was sure that I want to help them. I want to get them somewhere.
Suiciderock: Is there any advice you would give to a young band?
Ossi: You have to push it and push it and push it. Just believe in your music and never give up. Never ever give up.
Suiciderock: Do you think it is harder for a band from Tampere or Finland to get attention abroad?
Ossi: It depends. I think it helps if you are from Finland or Tampere, because for example people from Germany are getting easily interested as there are many big bands coming from Finland. It´s more difficult for a band that comes for example from Lichtenstein. I think it helps if you are from Finland. Germany has a good promotion.
Suiciderock: What are the good and the bad aspects of your job?
Ossi: I love my job. I don`t know any bad things about my job. Of course, it`s a bit busy sometimes. You have to love what you are doing. Of course, there are ups and downs like you have with in every other job. I simply love it.
Suiciderock: What would you do if you wouldn`t be a manager?
Ossi: That´s very difficult to answer. I think I would help people. Yeah I think I would do that, because I have this education in nursing. I don`t know what kind of job it would be, but I would help people. I think that´s also one reason why I`m the manager of The Bitterlicks.
Suiciderock: Would you ever consider to play in a band by yourself?
Ossi: No. I had a few bands. I was singing in one of this bands. It was a rock punk band. I was just having fun with some of my friends.
Suiciderock: Is this band still existing or did you quit?
Ossi: No. It was really just for fun. We haven`t played together since about 3 years.
Suiciderock: And you would never change from the manager to a singer or something like this?
Ossi: No, because I`m not a good singer.
Suiciderock: Your future plans for yourself?
Ossi: To get more money from the job I do and to get things bigger.
